Yves Saint Laurent: The Complete Haute Couture Collections, 1962–2002 (Catwalk),

Misleading title! Visually incomplete superficial overview; not comprehensive as promoted. Few photos. Poorly organized.
Disappointing superficial overview; visually incomplete. NOT comprehensive as promoted; misleading title! Poorly organized. DISAPPOINTING as a fashion research document! Few garments of each collection are presented. Non-comprehensive & sorely incomplete. The title & presentation claim it to be more than it is. Judging by the title & back liner description, I was expecting a source for documenting every YSL haute couture garment ever presented. But only a few from each collection are shown, in this spotty overview (of clothes, only; no original design sketches are presented, with which to compare them). Some photos were new to me; most weren't. I wasn't expecting another easily compiled re-hash of images found elsewhere. I searched for ten specific garments from each decade, but didn't find them! Had I found one, the price would've been worth it, to document the garment. And there weren't enough other photos from collection presentations to get a feel of the visual theme of any collection. A small written passage for each season provides a basic overview of the collections. Visually, this is stingy. I would've preferred a simple book, even with smaller photos, showing most/ALL of the garments. The format could be cleaner, for easy reference, with tabbed page edges for quicker reviewing & flipping through (instead of having to read the top-left of each page, to find the year/season, constantly flipping back & forth). It's another light overview on the general themes of the collections of YSL, for the non-initiated, a well-bound slick celebration, to look great on a shelf. It's no comprehensive presentation of the designs. It's of little use to an auction house or collector. If a young fashion student wants a big, unwieldy overview of the Yves Saint Laurent haute couture, in one place, it does that. Drats! I wish I'd have waited to buy it second-hand.
