sorting hat
1 of 1 found this helpful These hats apparently come in two configurations. The early hat with the tag on the top and the late hat with the tag on the rim.
The earlier hat, this one, The one with the scalopy rim? These are the good ones.
They are darker thicker cloth. There are 2 wires inside to hold it up.
However, any of these hats by Elope? They are much too soft and floppy to actually work well.
I built a hat form from a piece of plywood, a piece of firewood and single screw. Basically just a post. This lets you properly drape the hat the way you want it.
Mix some sizing. Wood glue and water. 3 spoons of glue in a 1/2 pint of water, more or less. Stir it up well. Put it in an empty spray bottle.
Take the hat outside. Fold move and otherwise prop it up where you want it. Soak it with sizing. Pay particular attention to the place where the rim meets the crown, but basically soak it all.
When it dries completely, you will see. The hat will stand up and be secure for you.
The later made hats with the round rim can still be styled and sized. In fact they have to be pretty heavily sized since they have less support inside.
I sewed a piece of ribbon to the granddaughters. She doesn't know it yet, Its for Christmas.
