Subtle Style
This watch catches everyone's eye. In an age where fewer watches are worn in favor of the smart phone, wearing a watch alone may seem noteworthy, but this watch elicits positive comments by almost everyone who sees it.
The contrasting gold workings and dark frame subtly make it pop, ultimately requiring increased scrutiny by the observer to see it's intricacy. While I love this contrast, it must be noted that it also makes this watch a bit difficult to read due to the dark roman numerals. Not a big deal if you wear a watch daily, but if you only wear one occasionally for special occasions, you may have some difficulty determining the actual time in dim settings.
The self winding feature works well and is fascinating to watch when you first get it. When showing it off, everyone remarks how amazing the feature is despite it being a older technology (I remember my dad had a self winding watch in 1975!). Depending on your activity level, I find the self winding, from normal office work and driving, will not keep it wound for much more than 12 hours of static storage. The designers must have known this too, because you can pull the winding stem out to the second detent and wind the watch (appx. 40 full turns) and store around 40 hours of energy in the spring. Any longer than that, and you will have to set the time (first stem detent) when you next wear it. Not quite long enough for a full weekend on the dresser, but then again, you'll never have to scratch the back or break the glass trying to replace a battery!
The band "breaks" in over a few weeks, lightening the color for a soothing distressed look. It is an average size band which fits my 5 1/2 - 6 inch wrist well at the third notch.
Fossil is a brand that I have trusted for for almost 30 years now. I still have a Fossil I bought 28 years ago and it still looks and works great. I fully expect this watch to do the same.
