Lumix GH1: Movie Monster
This little camera has a lot to offer. It has the video capabilities of the big dogs out in the market, but besides being cheaper, it is way lighter which is both good and bad. Bad because when there is less mas, there is a lot of shaking (this can be fixed with a home-made steady-cam). Good because you wont get tired that easily.
The design is easy on the hands but it is very different because is a smaller camera. When I first held it in my hands, I couldn't believe it was that much smaller than the smallest Canon DSLR out there (The XS which I used to own).
But what about the functionality? Well, off the bag this little monster comes with a wide variety of creative modes in photography mode: from aspect ratios to color modes where you can grade the pictures on the fly. The Aspect ratios include 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and the classic 1:1.
Video mode is superb, and you can also mod this camera with the proper firmware to make the video look even better. Frame rate constant and nice, image is jaw dropping, but beware... you must get yourself a nice SD card class 10 if you want to do a lot of HD video, trust me on this one.
A lot of example videos can be found at VIMEO dot COM.
thanks for reading.
