    Digitech Trio--

    Band in a box
This review is for the Trio Band Creator (TBC) not the Trio Plus. The TBC is easy to use and creates some great backing tracks once you get the hang of creating 'loops' for your songs (the bass and drum tracks the trio creates run in a loop). Even though I am an experienced musician I had never used a looper before so it took me a little while to get the hang of breaking a song down to loops that repeat properly and transition correctly from loop to loop (like verse loop to chorus loop). When creating a loop it's important to pick the correct beat to start and stop the recording on because if you pick to wrong beat the trio will misinterpret the time signature or style of your loop and create something that won't work for your song (starting and stopping on the 1 beat of the measure works perfectly).  The sound of the trio's backing bass and drums is more than good enough for practice and when sent to a PA or similar full range amp (like a vocal or acoustic amp) sound really good. The TBC can TEMPORARILY save and manage three loops at a time which can then be used to back different parts of your songs...verse, chorus, bridge, etc. The TBC does NOT allow you to save the loops you create permanently for recall at a later date. It takes some time to build the loops for a full song so thankfully there is a way to work around the lack of a save function...I simply send the TBC output to my pc and save the loops there. Then on the pc I can manage and sequence my loops as I see fit to create a full backing track for an entire song. As many have noted in their reviews the TBC does seem to default to overly complex arrangements for a newly created loop but when it does this it's super easy to twist the knob down to select a simpler arrangement.  So far I have not been able to figure out how to get the trio to not play-through a stop in songs with stops but hey I can't tell you how many times I've played with a real rythm section that played right through the stops so I guess I should be used to it. If the Trio would show up drunk for practice every once in a while that would be great and would make me feel right at home. I've had this for two days now and am loving it!
