JBL Playlist Wireless Speaker with Chromecast Built In (Black) - NIB
28 September 2021
Good for specific use cases
Ordered this as a replacement to the exact same model that died within 9 months of first use. I'm hoping this one lasts longer. In all, it'll function as a TV soundbar thanks to its AUX in port and auto-sleeping capabilities. For the purpose of a TV soundbar, it works great! There's wifi and Chromecast but that's not why we purchased this unit. You see, in my experience with the previous JBL Playlist, Chromecast doesn't seem to work too well. It connected for about 2 months and then stopped connecting to wifi. Then again none of the 3rd party Google devices, that claim Chromecast interoperability, seem all too reliable when controlled via the Google Home app. I'm placing that issue in Google's court to figure out their 3rd party device platform. Annnd a slight workaround to not using the features built into the device is having a Chromecast Ultra connected to the TV so the whole TV + JBL Playlist becomes a Chromecast device as opposed to just the speakers. Also, there's Bluetooth connectivity (which does work well) with this device so if I want to connect directly, without wires, I can do that (again, we really purchased it for the soundbar aspect of TV --> AUX cable --> JBL Playlist). This considered, it makes not paying full price palatable as not all advertised features work on this device based on previous experience. If this is full price, it's not worth it. So, the main concern is longevity. Amazon reviews have mentioned similar concerns. And if this one dies again, I'm pretty sure I'll steer clear of JBL in the future.
