My favourite young person's novel.
This is the story of Mary Lennox, who was orphaned while living in India. She is brought to live in a large house on the moors of Yorkshire. She hears a child's cries at night. However, the staff of the house deny the existence of any other child in the house.

The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley Illustrated by Susan Rowe
There are many good points about this edition, published by Paper Tiger The pages are of a very high quality, heavy and smooth. The full page illustrations by Susan Rowe are beautiful and evocative. There are nearly forty of them! Ms Rowe shows an exceptional abilty to render the human form with a combination of charm and anatomical accuracy reminiscent of Edme Bouchardon.
This is an abridged version of the story. The editor, Ines de Hosson, has removed Kingsley's "lectures". This enables the narrative to drive forward without interruption.
I love the book so much I bought two copies!

Legendary Inside-Outside Thermometer-Hygrometer with BIG digits
I was so pleased with the first one of these that I bought that I ordered another two. Then I ordered another and yet another so all sides of my house are monitored. I have had them for over a year now and all the digits are clear as new, the contrast with the background being excellent. Amazingly, for such a large display, the power consumption is only about 10 Micro-amps, peaking to around 40uA when the thermometer updates, which it does every 10 seconds. This means a theoretical battery life of over FIVE YEARS. The only downside is that the battery slot is rather close fitting. I did find one batch of the GP brand AAA batts hard to insert. All other brands have been OK.
