MC 5 - 'Ice Pick Slim' (Alive)
Never knew this three track compilation was (in fact) an extended CD single. I'm giving it a four-star rating because the sound quality is pretty darn good. Each cut is from a different show the MC 5 played sometime in October, 1968 at the Grande Ballroom in Detriot. "Motor City Is Burning" is your typical live MC 5 cut, as the eighteen-minute title track "Ice Pick Slim" serves as lengthy 'odds and ends' piece (sort to speak) with vocalist Rob Tyner on flute and John Sinclair on sax - an awesome 'open jam', likely improvised - as I've never heard the Motor City Five do anything quite like it. "Mad Like Eldridge Cleaver" is nineteen minutes of a blues jam that's more song-oriented. These songs were notably mastered from the original 7" tapes. Recommended.

Witchfinder General - 'Death Penalty' (Heavy Metal)
4 1/2 stars. Originally put out in 1982, this was the band's first of two 'proper' releases. Top notch 'New Wave Of Britsh Heavy Metal' / doom metal to be fully experienced here. Tracks that I liked the absolute best were "Invisible Hate", the title cut "Death Penalty", the powerful "Burning A Sinner" and "R.I.P". Above average guitar riffs working quite well with top rate heavy metal vocals. Well worth taking the time to check out. Fans of Saint Vitus, Iron Maiden, Grim Reaper and Saxon should get the most out of this awesome CD reissue.

Zombies - 'Odessey And Oracle' (Big Beat) 4 1/2 stars
A superbly / nice CD reissue of the Zombies second 'actual' album (is it?). Total of 27 tracks - so since you get the lp's original twleve cuts, with this 30th Anniversary Edition, you also get seventeen (you read that correct) 17 added bonus cuts. That's a LOT of a single-disc release. Loads of fabulous and most memorable tunes here to enlighten your evening like the three versions of "Care Of Cell 44", "Time Of The Season" (both in stereo and mono), the beautifully-done melodic "A Rose For Emily" (two versions), "I Want Her, She Wants Me", the catchy "Maybe After She's Gone" and a song that I've never heard before but was quite impressed with - "Butcher's Tale". Timeless British Invasion that will never die. Highly recommended.
