Blitzed: Drugs in Nazi Germany by Norman Ohler.

'Blitzed' is a mind blowing read.
Great untold story backed by authentic research and experience. Very interesting subject, the widespread use of amphetamines in the Nazi war machine and Hitlers own crazy drug cocktails courtesy of his personal doctor. No wonder they lost the war. Definitely several good dinner stories in this one. I bought copies for my friends as Christmas presents.

Excellent and useful book of the famous Maginot line.
Excellent guide to the history, technology and present status of this famous and controversial defensive work.The book debunks some of the myths surrounding the line and discusses the reasons for its failures and some of its surprising successes. One is left with the impression "if only..." Lots of detail and illustrations. Essential reading for those interested in its history or who are planning to visit one of the forts that have been restored or are open to the public. These are given star ratings so you can plan your visits accordingly. Certainly worth a read for buffs of military history and/or the traveller who wants to experience something totally different.

excellent guide to the ancient sites and sights.
Published in the late 70's but still relevant this book can form the basis of any tour of Britain taking in the ancient monuments and sites. Most of these are located in, often out of the way, places of great beauty. Visiting them can lead you through moors and forests, farms, mountains and streams. We used the paperback version of the book for a trip in '84. We revisited in 2017 and found the book still accurate and helpful. Plan a trip around it. The book deserves a reprint.
