Blaupunkt CDC-A08 - Tempremental but great sound!
1 of 1 found this helpful The Blaupunkt CDC-A08 is a lightly constructed CD changer with a 10 disc capacity. The woes of the light construction can, to some extent, be put to one side due to the great quality CD reproduction, the suprisingly good floating chassis (seemed unpeturbed even by my lowered VW Caddy Pickup) also very flexible with regard to discs used; CD-Rs, older discs, even some with light surface damage.
However, mine had suffered a CD cartridge being pushed into the unit with excessive force at some time in it's life and had a tendency to jam solid, refusing to either eject the cartridge or allow usual CD transport.
Regrettably, the previous damage sustained caused it to melt down yesterday, presumably the motor was whirring away furiously but the CD was withheld by the faulty mechanism, with a full compliment of 10 CDs on board. The CDs are all now destroyed and totally unplayable; the heat warped them and I am lucky I incorporated an in-line fuse into the 12v supply to the changer, otherwise things might have been a whole lot worse.
In summary, a truly great CD changer but if you buy one without prior inspection just hope it has been treated with the respect it deserves; whilst anyone can make a mistake, the damage caused by excessive force in loading the cartridge does not go away... as my experience illustrates...
As with all CD players/recorders, please be aware that viewing the lens and laser assembly will cause damage to sight - never look at the beam directly!
