Outstanding vise; Great value
This is an exceptional vise for the money. I bought it for a travel vise, but it will definitely see time at home as well, it is that good. The jaws and draw collet mechanism are very well designed and executed and the holding power is as good as it gets. The standard jaws provide adequate clearance for hook sizes down to at least #18 ot #20. After that, the midge jaws would probably be nice and I may look to add them. Adjustment for different hook sizes is easy and, most important, it stays where it is set until you want to change it. While I'm generally not a fan of pedestals, this one is very well done and is quite solid.
There are a couple of limitations: the angle is not adjustable but, for me, the factory angle of approximately 30 degrees is just right for most work. Also, it does not rotate once a hook is set in the jaws. This would be a useful feature, but would add significantly to the cost, I'm sure. Not a deal breaker, at least for me.
If you don't need or want true rotary, this vise should be at the top of your list.
