It gives a frank account of the trials and tribulations, the camaraderie and clash of egos, which goes along with this singular, solitary pursuit: a man and his machine against the odds. I have been an avid fan and collector of land speed record books and memorabilia for over 40 years. In that time, I've had the privilege of meeting many of the racers and crew members featured in this book and it gives me great pleasure to read about them once again, but from a more intimate perspective. Samuel Hawley delves deeply into the passions and personalities of some of racing history's most notable, yet unsung heroes: land speed racers. It delves into details of Craig’s life which show are young man eager to achieve his goals. The cost of achieving those goals was often heartbreaking and brutal. But Craig persevered And became one of the most respected race car drivers in history. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is raising enthusiast. It paints a complete picture I’ll be young boy who became a man and fulfilled his ultimate speed dreams!
