Fred Eablesmith CD: Milly's Cafe
Excellent new CD from a guy who has labored in relative obscurity for far far far too long. Eaglesmith's characters are so true-to-life you swear you know every one of them. The lyrics and arrangements on this CD are sparse and beautiful. If you can listen to the heartbreaker "Rocky" without feeling a twinge, you simply are not human.
Buy it. Listen to it.

Automata and Formal Languages
Excellent introductory book for languages and automata. Plenty of examples. Covers the Chomsky hierarchy, Turing machines, decidability via TM's. Emphasis is conceptual as opposed to rigor, though it doesn't sweep too many important things under the carpet. Some material on complexity.
