Wildwood Flower - June Carter Cash
Wildwood Flower is the last CD made by June Carter Cash, finished just a short time before she died. Deeply poignant because of that, it is nonetheless beautiful and often funny too in June's inimitable way. It contains songs that are old friends, diverse in character, and explicitly aims to be a portrait of her whole life, starting with the Carter Family favourite "Keep on the sunny side" and ending with the hauntingly lovely and sad title song. Her Mother Maybelle is present in the early songs, and husband Johnny Cash, who was to die only four months after June, joins her in some of the later ones. Anyone who has enjoyed his singing (and who hasn't?) or who was gripped and moved by the film of their lives "Walk the Line" cannot fail to find much to love in this collection. The accompanying booklet brings June close. "Wildwood Flower", like the film produced by June and Johnny's son John Carter Cash, is a fitting tribute to a fine singer and entertainer and a great lady.
