A wrongly convicted convict and his faithful wife find their lives going from bad to worse.
A highly engaging Henry Fonda film directed by the masterful Fritz Lang. Fonda plays against type - it is hard to find sympathy with this three time loser who seems to be enraged against the world, including his bafflingly loyal wife, played by Sylvia Sydney. It all goes wrong one rainy evening when Fonda's character is wrongly accused of a crime with murder. Sydney remains faithful, and the two embark on a downward spiral that ends at the Mexican border.
