Another great adventure from Charley and Ewan!!
I bought this book becasue I loved Long Way Round, which was the pair's first traveling adventure. I had heard some very mixed, not so great reviews about this new book but I decieded that I wanted to read it for myself to form my own opinon. I am so glad that I did becasue I thought that it was another great tale of the guys travels.
What I like so much about following their adventures is the way they strive to interact with the people that they meet on thier journey's. So many people today are concerned with only themselves and don't seem to have the time for others, yet Charley and Ewan go looking for just the types of adventures which will bring them into contact with all types of different people in different cultures. Ewan and Charley are both busy actors, wealthy no doubt, yet take the time to spend countless hours doing work for UNICEF or bringing organizations like Riders For Health to light for people like me who might otherwise have never known of the existance of such organizations.
It was from their first book that I really learned that UNICEF is so much more then just another "Help The Children" organization where the children never acutally see the money or benefits from. Since their first book I myself have reached out to help UNICEF in the ways that I can. Reading their adventures about what they see and go through makes a person, or at least me, really appreciate what it is that I have in this life and realize just how hard it really is for many people. I also realize just how kind people in other cultures who basically have nothing are, and sadly just how selfish some of us can really be.
Their books bring to life a culture and a people that I myself might never have known since I highly doubt I could ever travel to Africa, Uganda, Mongolia or Kazakstan .... I'm ashamed to say that I never really paid much attention to the other parts of the world, but I do now and it is because of what I learned about these other people through the eyes of Charley and Ewan, reading their books and watching their motorcycle journeys. I really hope they contuine to make these types of films and write these types of books as I am really looking forward to their next adventure.
And of course, when I couldn't find the book in print here in the states I turned to EBAY becasue I knew that I would find it there. The book has since been published in the states but I still got it cheaper (including shipping) from ebay. GO EBAY!
