Haynes Repair Manual for the marginally skilled
this text is more than adequate for the home mechanic who is attempting to save some serious cash by avoiding the ridiculous "post warrant" expense of owning a modern Volvo and getting around the traps of the Service Department when you find yourself in a position of going in blind with a problem.
Covers most of the systems that can comfortably be addressed by the car owner who has an adequate collection of tools and a place to work on his car. The Haynes manual also provides an extremely helpful group of listings of specifications and conversion factors that come up often when attempting service at home
Very well written and logically laid out and gives one confidence that the task at hand can be done by someone who is not a "Master Mechanic" charging $125 an hour and installing parts at dealer cost + 300%

Shiny Objects
Product is "as advertised" and appears to be of good quality. Fit is perfect and I will see how the chrome plating holds up as exposed to the elements over the next year or two.

American History - Unglorified
1 of 1 found this helpful This book is more than likely (and should be!) a College Level Text Book. The author restricts himself to the History of the American West - from the Mississippi River Westward - and it's socio-economic effects, benefits, and negative aspects when it comes to politics, demographics and impact upon both the land and it's occupants, settlers, immigrants, displaced persons and the resources they extract or refine.
A very interesting and enlightening read - even at a chapter at a time schedule. At 634 pages it is not a marathon read. Well illustrated and ample maps, charts and statistical graphs to dwell upon. At all stages of the book, it provides "factual education" to the layman and, even at 24 years old, (1st edition 1991), the information contained is static and enlightening.
I consider myself much more knowledgeable thanks to this book and am ready to discuss Corrupt Politicians, unscrupulous Railroad Barons, Mining and Timber Tycoons, Chinese, Irish and Scandinavian immigrants, screwed over Mexican Americans, Native Americans and, of course, Prostitutes.
This book will join my eclectic collection of Reference material and I am anticipating that it will be re-read frequently.
