Just buy it!
For a beginner you want an instrument you can play straight out of the box, if you are more experienced you can lower the action, change the tuners and pot's, other hardware, pickups of choice etc. either way you have a great gig-able instrument to start from. Well fretted, and although you definitely need to lubricate the (ABS?) nut, it is cut perfectly along with the frets on a well adjusted Plek machine.
I have around 40 yrs experience playing and working on guitars, this was my 2nd recent attempt to buy a usable beginners instrument, the first was a brand name I thought were reliable, an Epi SL, and let's just say there is no comparison, the Artist is a fine guitar, the Epi belongs in the trash.
