I Love This Book

I first read this book about 30 years ago. I enjoyed it so much, I immediately read it again. Over the years, I either lost or gave away my original copy, so when I saw it on eBay I had to buy it. James Crumley writes so well it makes your hair hurt. It begins, "When I finally caught up with Abraham Trahearne, he was drinking beer with an alcoholic bulldog named Fireball Roberts in a ramshackle joint just outside of Sonoma, California, drinking the heart right out of a fine spring afternoon." That's a whole story right there. Except he didn't exactly "catch up" with Trahearne, and the "finally" was really just the beginning of a story that involves booze, guns, beautiful women, and 14 hour car rides. If you're a fan of Raymond Chandler or Robert B. Parker, you will love this book.
