Very good choice if you are on a budget
Good upgrade for the kit lens.
Pros:
Very good price for performance.
Wide aperture.
Crisp images.
Cons:
Non-vc, but not an issue in steady hands or tripod.
Chromatic aberration visible in 17mm but not in other focal lengths.
Better in all aspects comparing to the kit lens beside the 17mm limit and the lack of image stabilizer.

3 of 3 found this helpful Impresive screen. Big digits. Nice diagram. Sound is not loud. Counting is bearely audible and not displaing counts per minute on screen. (Not very important though.)
I have only tested it with diet salt KCL and it works fine doubling the background radiation noise. The case is not slim and the tube is deep inside far from the air openings. That makes difficult to measure small things.
For a starter is a very good choice.
