OK but there are better options.
These mitts are like the old Helly Hensen mitts I used to use for motorcycling back in the 1970's. The pertex pile combination is quite warm but I wouldn't trust them much below 0 degrees C.
They get saturated in the rain - you can ring them out. They do retain the heat to a good extent when sodden, though the tips feel cold and very uncomfortable.
They're quite expensive, though as they're still made in the UK I guess labour charges account for that. The thumb design is very primitive and doesn't fit very well. (look at the thumb design on Montane prism mitts for comparison.)
I will keep them in my rucksack as emergency use but there are better options available.
The pertex material on the palm makes gripping anything a bit slippery. When I used the old Helly Hensen mitts we used to wrap a rubber band around the palm to increase grip on the motorcycle throttle, but of course this compromises the insulation value. I don't remember this being a problem however.

Seems to work as described. Very happy.
Reduces ash - there's hardly any in the ash pan. Previously I had to empty it every 3 days. I reckon I will need to empty it every fortnight now. The fire seems to burn better, it's certainly easier to light. Probably saves on wood though I have no real way to judge this.
It will be interesting to see how long it lasts. Provided I get a couple of months from it I'll be happy.
