a tour de force of ottoman scholarship
it is a book of ideas and philosophical arguments. The topic is about christian perceptions of ottoman islamic thought and practice. It is both thorough and well argued. Insofar as it touches on 16th/17thc christian thinking it is informative. The downside is that unless you have a good understanding of the wars of the 16thc in eastern europe you could get the impression that the clash of religions is somewhat overblown. The comparison with the cold war although considered a cliche is appropriate here. The ottoman empire posed to europe a very real threat, something the author downplays but as a ideological entity with huge economic resources, it was never a foregone conclusion that the austrians would win and that islam would be held at the borders of central europe.

a lot of illustrations make this a must have book on oxford
a good academic publication, with fine illustrations and clear text. remarkably better insight into oxford's history than a lot of histories on the town and university. best of all bought at a discount. quality and a bargain price, a very good purchase.

new style duo pack good value
good combination of new style pirate and red coat. pirate is the better of the two, as the red coat is not an improvement of the previous model. right number of accessories and reasonable value. with playmobil they try to re invent things every few years, so it is always a case of welcoming it when they do improve things.
