NEW ARRIVAL MOVIE BLU RAY & DIGITAL HD & SLIPCOVER SLEEVE & FREE SHIPPING
30 March 2017
Excellent SciFi with a Profound Story
If you are a deep thinker, you'll probably enjoy this movie very much. It's one of the best scifi movies. It deals with concepts of time and whether a person should choose to do a thing, knowing it will bring not only great joy but also terrible grief. And it portrays a hopeful future where humanity looks beyond its phobias and unites. The aliens were amazingly original as was their method of communication and technology. Yet, in spite of the vast difference between them and mankind, they bridge the gap with a breath-taking demonstration of sacrificial love. There have been very few scifi movies that stir the soul as profoundly as Arrival. Perhaps Enemy Mine from 1985 comes close. I highly recommend Arrival.

Mission to Mars Mediabook Digibook (Blu-ray/DVD, Region Free Brian De Palma) NEW
16 April 2021
This German release of "Mission to Mars" is the only blu-ray option for English viewers.
History --------------------------------- Unfortunately, the 2000 "Mission to Mars" movie starring Gary Sinise, Connie Nielsen, Tim Robbins, Don Cheadle, Jerry O'Connell and Kim Delaney was never released in high-definition on blu-ray in region A for the English language. The only choice for North America has been the standard-definition release on DVD. However, "Mission to Mars" was released in high-definition in France and included the original English soundtrack as an option. Sadly, when the English soundtrack is selected, bright white subtitles appear. The subtitles cannot be turned off while the English soundtrack is selected and they ruin the many dark scenes in space. A couple of years ago a new high-definition release of "Mission to Mars" was issued -- this time for Germany. It is a multi-format release containing both a high-definition blu-ray and a standard-definition DVD. This review is for the German release. German Release ------------------------------------------------------------- All of the menus of this release are in German. However, the blu-ray includes the full English soundtrack as an option. This is the disk to get if you want to view the movie in North America in high definition. The blu-ray disc is region-free, which means it should work in most players from region A, B or C. And the blu-ray does not force subtitles when you choose the English soundtrack. The picture and sound quality are great -- definitely a step up from the standard-definition DVD. Strangely, the DVD in this package is not region free. It is a region 2 disc and will not play on most North American players. However, if you live in North America and you buy this release, you probably don't care about the DVD -- you are buying it for the blu-ray which is region-free. There have been several good movies about Mars: "Mission to Mars" in 2000. "Red Planet" (Val Kilmer, Carrie-Anne Moss, Tom Sizemore), also in 2000. And "The Martian" (Matt Damon) in 2015. I like them all, but "Mission to Mars" is my favorite.
Olympus MC-20 2x PRO Teleconverter * for 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro & 300mm F4.0 Pro
01 December 2021
The Olympus MC-20 Teleconverter Is One of the Best 2x Models Available, But You Must Understand Its Limitations
A teleconverter is always a compromise. It's a way to transform a lens into something more than it was designed to be. This 2x teleconverter transforms an Olympus 40x150mm lens into an 80x300mm lens. It does the same for the Olympus 300mm lens, making it a 600mm lens. Or the 100-400mm lens into a 200-800mm lens! But the compromise occurs because these lenses were not designed for those focal lengths and adding more lens elements to the path of the light while at the same time moving the lens farther away from the image sensor reduces the aperture (which reduces the amount of light entering the camera) and reduces the portion of the original optical image circle that exposes the image sensor (thereby reducing the optical resolution). I've used some 2x teleconverters (like a Tamron model that came with a 500mm catadioptric lens, converting it into a 1000mm lens) that are horrible. The Tamron teleconverter softens the image so much and flattens the contrast so you're almost better off just using the lens without the teleconverter and enlarging the image digitally in Adobe Photoshop or Topaz Lab's Gigapixel AI. But Olympus stands apart. The quality of its teleconverters (both this 2x MC-20 and their 1.4x MC-14) are top quality and work better than any other teleconverters that I've ever used. So, I'm very happy with the results I get with my Olympus MC-20 teleconverter and I highly recommend it. If you understand the tradeoffs that they impose and those tradeoffs are tolerable in order to increase the reach of your lenses, then they can serve a valuable niche in your arsenal of photographic gear. Just remember: You cannot cheat physics. Because a teleconverter (all teleconverters) reduce the light, enlarge the image circle and introduce more lens elements, you will need your scene to be better lit, your autofocus will be a little slower, the range of your in-camera image stabilization will be reduced a little and your images will be a tiny bit less sharp. But, because Olympus has made its teleconveters (like the MC-20) to its Pro-series standard, they are among the best teleconverters on the market and they are fully weather-sealed.
