    Another Sab story!
If you are a fan of Black Sabbath, this is a must read. As far as the title goes, this is the GREATEST USE OF A PUN in literature, ever. I cracked up seeing it on the shelf in a London bookstore some years ago and have meant to read the book since. It finally became available in the US. Don't expect great literature--it's a straightforward account of events on the road during Sabbath's golden age from two crew members. I am partial to the subject, thus anything written in any form about Sabbath holds interest for me. This book doesn't disappoint. Though we learn little about what kind of people the authors are, they figure most readers want the goods on the fearsome foursome, and this is what they tell us about. The very straightforward prose seems to merely hint at the true insanity and debauchery of some of the anecdotes. I wish the anecdotes had been longer! But there was much to cover and the authors do an admirable job. There is a clear respect for the members of the band and I detect a discretion in the storytelling. Some stories are not meant to be shared or at least not revealed in all the details, lest one incur the wrath of the subject-- let alone the wrath of Sharon Osbourne! Of course, it's that very thing with all the psychological profile of the ugly details that makes for great storytelling. HOW BLACK is not the kind of soul-baring account as, for instance, Lemmy Kilmister's WHITE LINE FEVER, but it's a fun read. I am glad that these two had the wherewithal to put this book together. A solid, good read for the fan.

A book that should be a classic. Timeless, smart, and beautiful.
This book should be a classic, yet it's out print. The story is so beautifully simple but clever, the language warm yet smart, and Agee's draftsmanship, sense of color and composition superb. This one's timeless. Get it!
