Alexa Rules!
This was the second Echo I purchased and I couldn't be happier with them. They work great as a Bluetooth speaker, but I bought them primarily as an addition to my home automation system. I use them on my Insteon network, controlled by Universal Devices' ISY994 controller. This allows me to control all the lights in my home, both individually and in scenes; my thermostat and my locks. I can't imagine not having her respond to her name!

Just what I needed.
I bought this to stabilize the poultry netting on my aviary. Does the trick.

Forward Focused Company
I have been using a Universal Devices made hub for over 10 years now. I started with their ISY99i and migrated to their ISY994i a couple of years later. They have worked without fail this entire time. Over this course of years UDI has consistently improved the customer experience. This included very early Alexa integration, which works seamlessly. My home automation network consists chiefly of Insteon devices, which do require a "PLM" device to interface with the ISY. Given the hopefully short-lived availability problems with the only manufacturer of this device, Smarthome, it is important to note that the ISY also fully supports the latest Z-Wave devices as well with full interoperability. Their foundation on "nodes" means that supported devices are all accessed and controled in the same manner regardless of their underlying communication protocols. The programming facilities offered are straightforward and are based on if/then statements that are automatically generated by dropdown selections. For the more adventurous, variables are fully supported, but not exposed unless desired. Their recent implementation of "node servers" has allowed incorporation of "virtual" nodes which can represent any device a developer desires. Overall, this is a mature but ongoing enterprise for UDI.
