A really great camera to start out with: easy to use, simple, great photos.
I have just started out with photography. I am still learning things, and this camera is a really great camera to learn on. It takes great pictures, and has modes that will make any moment look good! The manual adjustments are really easy to navigate, and the quality of photos is fantastic. My only criticism is that it does not have any creative modes like the D5100, like high key/low key/miniature etc. However, some of these effects can be applied in-camera, after the picture has been taken.

Great for cameras with built in focus motors
The product is great because it has a very wide aperture for a zoom lens, without breaking the budget! It's also a constant f/2.8, so you have great aperture even when fully zoomed in.
However, unless you have a focus motor in your camera (the D3100, D5100 and their successors do not), you cannot use autofocus on the lens. It doesn't have an autofocus motor built in.
