THE CHOIR OF KING'S COLLEGE CAMBRIDGE: THE COMPLETE ARGO RECORDINGS USED - VERY
29 August 2017
Exorbitant Price for Exorbitant Package
0 of 1 found this helpful Billed as "the most famous choir in the world," the choral tradition may be decreasing in significance in our culture across the board
Speaking of across the board, feel free to enjoy selections such as Byrd's three-, four- and five-voiced masses, as well as Haydn's Lord Nelson mass
Split the difference between musical eras, and you get portions of Bach and Handel
Next, throw in some Tye (the portrait attached) and Tavener for English credibility
In the liner notes, find a photo of England's own David Willcocks celebrating the apotheosis of the Fabs alongside his own 1963 release
You need only sell your bicycle to participate in all of these. Nevertheless, you save money in the long run, being that most of the recordings date to the vinyl era

G&S Characters Jump Off the Screen
Gilbert and Sullivan remain brilliant for their lyrics, so it is hardly a disappointment that the Guthrie tried to engage the music by making it more Elton-John-esque. Besides, who dislikes Elton?
A complaint in many reviews of the production was that the characters were shoved in your face. Without attending theatrical productions in person, however, how are we to experience what the audience experiences? It is a testament to the actors' versatility that they break through to us with their dreadlocks and cockney accents.
The question remains, then, who is the target audience? Not G&S purists and not rock musical purists. That leaves the rest of us

Artsy Film Will Put You on the Up-and-Up
I watched A Voice Like Egypt a couple of years back, knowing little about Kulthum except her "Kate Smith of Egypt" status... or is it "Ella Fitzgerald of Egypt"?
Anyway, you will connect with the film whether you love music or want to know about Nasser's revolution or want to hear Michal Goldman's somnambulant voice do the director's commentary.
A film that is hard to find in university libraries, a Voice Like Egypt is a sure bet for your DVD collection
