A narrative of literary majesty
Hardy is a master at portraying vivid character studies in a setting which envelops the reader. The reader is a spectator, transplanted within each page of the narrative. The story line is thin and may be briefly summarised, the telling of it is seems incongruously long but not tedious for within Hardy's rich expansive vocabulary the journey is captivating and alive.
