Diesel Heater Theromstat

We purchased 2. diesel heaters and it was easy enough to install. But unfortunately the instructions to operate the Thermostat are confusing. Has anyone else purchased one of these heaters who could give us any hints on how to operate the thermostat. We keep getting error code E 01 and the status button won’t stop flashing.
