Minnesota Prints and Printmakers, 1900-1945: By Crump, Robert L.
05 March 2022
An excellent reference work.
The book is a well-organized, nicely-produced survey of Minnesota printmaking in the years covered. It begins with a 30-page article chronicling the development of printmaking and the institutions and movements that influenced it. There follows an attractive selection of color prints by MN artists, and then a dictionary of printmakers who had significant MN connections or produced prints featuring MN locations, giving a basic biography, illustrated with a representative print and in some cases a photo of the artist.
The Art of Emma Bormann
23 January 2019
A great depiction of the work and life of an under-appreciated woman artist.
This is not a full catalogue raisonne, but it is a lavishly produced/illustrated compendium of most of the major prints by this under-appreciated artist. The pictures alone are more than worth the price, but the story is great, too. Emma Bormann was not just a skilled artist with a distinctive style that blended traditional and modern aspects of printmaking, she was obviously an intrepid, pioneering adventurer. The remainder pricing on this volume seems sinfully cheap.
