Stiletto FH10C 14.5-Inch 10-Oz Titanium Smooth Curved Hickory Handle Hammer
04 August 2022
I love this hammer
I think this is perhaps the nicest hammer I've ever used. It is for finishing work so don't expect to go framing with it, but for what it's made for, it is great. And it won't rust in the north Oz humidity.
Dewalt 18v cordless impact driver 3 speed brushless led dcf887n tool only
06 July 2017
Not perfect, but very good
If you are already on the Dewalt battery platform buying this impact driver is a "no brainer". It is sturdy, well made and has heaps more driving power that you'll ever really need. I am a tradesman and have always just used a cordless drill for screw driving tasks. This impact driver has quickly become my most used tool by a wide margin. The drill only every sees the light of day now for pre-drilling where I'm worried about splitting or fastening to heavy steel and drilling tiles, etc. There are plenty of comparison reviews online which pit this driver off against comparable drivers from other quality brands, but just to give an idea of the driving power, it easily (and quickly) drove a 38mm 8g pan head self tapper all the way through a 70mm pine stud. Keep in mind that this is not a countersinking, self cutting head fastener, it is a pan head. I have found the slow speed to be mostly useless. There might certain cases where it is useful but I haven't found any yet. My driver pretty well lives in #2 speed. This is probably due to the type of work screws I am driving all day every day, 8g and 10g into wall plugs, timber, light and heavy steel. I think the highest speed would probably be quite useful for 14g hex fasteners (T17 and metal drilling) as jumping off the fastener is less of a concern. I find the variable speed trigger on speed #2 allows plenty of control and the impact mechanism almost acts as a clutch when fastening into wall plugs. I never use the clutch when driving screws with a cordless drill, just feather the variable speed to get the correct torque. With this impact driver in speed #2, and fixing 8g fasteners into wall plugs, I feather the speed down and allow one or two clicks of the impact mechanism and that's about right. I know it's not designed as a clutch mechanism but is kind of works that way for certain driving applications. This driver isn't perfect though and the one downside is the amount of play in the chuck. It is my first impact driver so don't really have others to compare it to but I have read a lot of reviews on various branded impact drivers and I understand that all have play in the chuck to some degree, but Dewalt is the worst for this. There is a fair amount of wobble at the end of a 150mm driver bit (which I have to use for most of my work). This really only becomes a problem when using longish self drilling metal screws. You have to use good quality, matched fasteners/bit and line up perfectly during the drilling stage or the bit will jump off the screw. If you aren't already bought into the Dewalt platform and you are trying to decide if this impact driver is the tool to pursued you to do so, then your decision is a bit more difficult. It is a very good tool and many online test comparisons show it outperforming other quality brands. However I think the brushless, 18v impact driver options from each of the trade quality tool manufacturers is plenty good enough to serve you well. Therefore I don't believe the impact driver alone will be the tool to convince anyone to buy into a particular platform. That decision should be based on overall affordability and availability of the tools you need within the range. I find Dewalt tools and batteries can be found a bit cheaper than Milwaukee, Makita and Hilti. The Dewalt range has tools the others don't and the others have tools Dewalt doesn't. If you are like me and have specific tool requirements, none of the platforms have all the tools you need. I have to run 3 different platforms........argh!
