All Around the World Cookbook
An intriguing world tour by author Sheila Lukins forms the basis for the All Around the World Cookbook. This is a nice book for reading while snuggling in your most comfortable chair and sipping a cup of your favorite beverage. It's also very useful as a cookbook. And it will be a fount of information for school reports. Chilean Avocado Salad, Scottish Oatcakes, Indonesian Peanut Sauce, Blazing Squash Chili - that should be enough to start your taste buds dancing; and all recipes are easy to follow with fairly accessible ingredients. All in all a nice book for yourself or as a gift.

A Belgian Cookbook
Touring town by town A Belgian Cookbook provides many delicious, easily followed recipes. Recipes range from down-home to gourmet - to name just a few: Honey Cake, Lamb Ragout Brabanconne, Wild Strawberry Jam, Sweet and Sour Boar's Ham, Potato Salad Ardennaise, Pears Stewed in Coffee. Our family enjoyed the following dinner: Bruges Stew (Beef) redolent with herbs and garlic and full of vegetables, with slices of Buckwheat Bread, followed by Fruit Torte. The publisher, Hippocrene, has once again come up to its own high standard and provided a cookbook you can sit down and read for enjoyment as well as use for dining pleasure. An interesting note gleaned from the introduction: Many of the recipes comes from 75 year old Mlle. Bellon and her nonagenarian maid - who often host wonderful feasts in Lokeren, Belgium.

A Veritable Treasure
Australian Heritage Cookbook could just as easily be listed in the art/photography genre as in cooking. The beautiful, full-color, full-page photos of the Australian countryside and of the delicious food make this volume extra special. Then to top it off the recipes are delicious and easy to follow. Most recipes will be recognizable to Americans but a few are just that little bit tantalizingly different: Passionfruit and Banana Butter; Mandarin and Apple Flan; Damper; Chocolate Afghans. You'll also find some fine international recipes such as: Baklava; Kurabriethes; Dutch Cherry Cheese Cake. At the moment Australian Heritage Cookbook is not in my kitchen, it's on the Living Room coffee table where everyone can take a quick look at it whenever they have a free moment.
