Very good dehumidifier for three-bedroomed house
8 of 8 found this helpful This dehumidifier was bought to reduce condensation and stop mould growth in my elderly parents-in-law's warm, cosy but over-insulated house. It was very simple to set to the required Relative Humidity, and then left to get on with the job. It has been running continuously for a couple of weeks now and seems effective, with my father-in-law emptying it every day when it gets full and automatically switches off. The LCD display tells you the current RH level so you can see the dehumidifier's effectiveness as this figure drops. My father-in-law was worried about the cost of it continuously running, but I explained that it's one of the most efficient dehumidifiers on the market, using 165 Watts, which on his contract costs about 60 pence a day to run. Once the RH has stabilised the dehumidifier should switch off and on to maintain the level, so should become cheaper to run. I like the optional HEPA filter to reduce the spread of mould spores and generally make the air cleaner, as I don't want my elderly relatives to catch a cough or chest infection.
Being made of white and green curvy plastic, this dehumidifier doesn't exactly blend into the background of the domestic environment, but it sits in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs and doesn't stand out too much, and the rounded corners means less chance of somebody bruising themselves if they accidentally walk into it. The fan is not too loud and while it could be quieter for a domestic setting, it's certainly no noisier than other models. There are similar specified dehumidifiers on the market that are a bit cheaper, but this is made by a specialist British firm that have won awards for their products and who can be easily contacted for advice and potential repairs or spare parts, which gives confidence for long-term ownership. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase and think it's exactly the right dehumidifier for my parents-in-law's house. I was impressed enough to buy another Meaco dehumidifier for my own property.
