Fine Digital FineDrive 400 Vs. Brand Name (Revised )
We've purchased five Fine Digital FineDrive 400 GPS units in the past three years or so. We won them at about a quarter of the price of the brand name products. These units have a larger screen than most of the brand name products and work exceptionally well. We do a lot of driving, delivering and training our clients on the use of diabetic supplies. We figure these units pay for themselves in a short period of time on gas savings alone, taking us in the shortest, quickest route possible to the next client's home. (I’m talking right to the front door) These units have all the functionality of the more expensive units ie: POI, Door to Door, Voice Navigation, 2D and 3D view. I've seen some reviews that say these units don't work well in rainstorms but found that not to be the case. These units work very well in heavily overcast skies and during heavy rainfall. The POI function is great. When I need to find the nearest Wal-Mart, Gas Station, ATM, Burger King, or Mall etc. It takes me right there! So why spend big bucks on a brand name? Revised 12-8-2008, Maps are outdated any new roads or addresses added in the past five years or so will not be on the maps. downgraded from Excellent to Good.

811 Dish Network Receiver, HD Obsolete?
9 of 9 found this helpful The 811 receiver can still be activated for standard definition programming by Dish Network; verified 11-6-2008. You will NOT be able to get satellite programming in HD. You WILL be able to get your LOCAL CHANNELS in HD up to 1080i. You WILL need a "roof top antenna" or "rabbit ears" connected to the unit to receive the local channel signals. You CANNOT use this receiver as an HD "stand alone box" to get your local channels. You WILL need the satellite dish connected to the system. I own one of these units and it works ok. So, if you don't want to pay Dish Network for the HD package, but do want to see the locally broadcasted "game" in HD and subscribe to Dish Network. This Receiver will work just fine. **Update 9-25-2009. This unit now requires a Smartcard from Dish Network. The cost of the card is $50.00+ and you can't get one if you don't have an active account. So, if your looking to buy one of these units and it does not have the latest Purple card, it's probably not worth it. Also, Dish is going to charge you an extra $5.00 monthly to have this receiver on the system. You can cut a deal for a leased unit for the same price with a DVR (digital video recorder). I've downgraded this unit from (good) to (poor).

Well worth it!
Super easy to install provided you follow the instructions exactly.. Works great! I did not install or use a 'C' wire and have had no issues... Your system may need it...
