Hurray! White Nights is finally out on DVD.
1 of 1 found this helpful White Nights is a definate classic film in our household. Our old VHS verson is grainy and skips in some sections. I have been looking for the DVD version for some years. I was a little dissapointed that they did not try to do some reviews with former actors directors, etc.
The dancing of Baryshnikov and Hines is something you will not see anywhere else today. The control of the ballet dancer and the loose body movements of the tap dancer is riviting as you watch them make the same moves but look so different in doing them. The story is good for the times. We had two Russian teachers stay with us around this time. It was a very eye opening experience for us as the the life of Russian citizians.
The story line is a little week, but the dancing and music are a good enough reasons to add this to your classis collection of DVDs.

Amazing Grace (2007, DVD)
2 of 2 found this helpful Amazing Grace, the movie, was so deeply moving one begins to get an inkling of an idea of the work Wilber Wilberforce accomplished. The costuming and scene set up bring one into the mood of the time in which it was set. There were no scenes of slaves aboard ships or the dumping of slaves as in Amistad; but the scene, where the elite are taken past a slave ship while leisurely boating, is just as effective. I highly recommend this film.

Manhunting by Jennifer Crusie (2007)
This is my first time of reading Jennifer Crusie and I will deffinately look for more novels written by her.
The characters go from down home welcoming to the tough guy (or gal) pushing for success. Kate Swenson, who is in her 30's and wants to marry, approaches the problem with what think is a savy plan. I have kown women who have developed their own plans when in similer situations. It is something we would do. Jake Templeton is a typical guy. Who undestands them? The interplay between these two and the small community of Toby's Corners is funny, familliar, frustrating, halarious, and sexy.
A good read with feeling that they could be part of your family.
