Soft steel tip becomes dull when used on steel materials.
Unfortunately I bought two sets of these before I realized that the material is too soft to hold a tip when used to mark mild steel. I wanted to try on aluminum, but the tip was dull.

Very soft steel and el-cheapo set screws.
I wish that they had been more selective about the materials used in the tool holder and set screws. Must be a low carbon content because both the tool holder and screw set deforms with even careful use.

Soft metal.
1 of 1 found this helpful This must not be high speed steel because the sharp tip becomes dull after 1-3 uses. Very cheaply made. Not recommended.
