Definitely a good buy!
1 of 1 found this helpful This was a clean western story where someone finally stands up to a town bully and takes him to the full consequences of his actions. Yes there is violence.
There is no other unnecessary "stuff" thrown in that would cause offense.
There are enough twists and turns to make it really enjoyable and not "predictable". There is humor mixed throughout that is also good.

Movie quite different from book!
I read the book with a class of 6th grade students. I was hoping that the movie would be a fun conclusion to the study we had done. However, unless your plan is to watch the movie alone, for its own, there are SO MANY changes from the book it hardly seems like the same story. My students were disappointed.
Since it is most available on VHS, it hardly seems worth the cost. (It's not really a "keeper" to see over & over again.)
Good family type story and movie.

Good family movie!
The movie departs somewhat from the book by covering details about the family trying to get back to their son as well as the daily living & survival of the young man. Both have their positives.
I would definitely recommend the book first. It is a GREAT boy book about making it on one's own.
But the movie had a lot of good talking points too. It added dimension in areas that the book did not cover.
I bought this to go with a class reading of the book by the same title.
