An explanation of Mike Austin's incredible swing
2 of 2 found this helpful I've been aware of Mike Austin and his sweet swing for about five years. I bought the DVD with Mike Dunaway, Austin,s student who went on to win long drive contests. The DVD shows the basics and has very good shots of Dunaway's full swing. However, I couldn't quite get the gist of the swing until I read How to Kill the Ball by Dan Shauger. Shauger goes into very much detail with good explanations of individual moves. His knack of relating the moves to more common motions helps the student get a visual image of the move.
I picked up the swing relatively quick because of my swing change to Jim Hardy's one plane swing several years ago. Austin's swing is much easier on the low back as there is no twisting in that area. My distance and accuracy has improved dramatically. It also seems that it all happens with much less effort. I think anyone having or would like to avoid low back problems should investigate this swing. The book is bound in a loose leaf method that allows one to leave the book open without bending or breaking the binding and see the pictures while you copy the positions. I play almost daily and play to a 2 handicap.
