Great Bang for the Buck
My wife, who needed to be taught to frame, zoom and shoot and who has not snapped a shutter since she retired her KODAK INSTAMATIC, wanted a camera that was small, light weight, attractive and friendly with hi resoultion. After testing and returning the Nikon L26, I reseached many cameras. We also have a Nikon S8100 that is great. We were going to get the S8200 and give her the 8100 but both of these were too much camera for her, plus it cost over $100 more. We settled on the S4100 because it not only met her needs but had the extra features that I like in a back up camera. It does the job very well. She took it to Carson City, Nevada to visit our Governor. If you want to see the results go to www.MsSeniorNyeCounty.com and from the Home Page go to the CARSON CITY TRIP. I shoot both video and portraits on a prosumer level for the organization and am impressed with both these point and shoot digitals. She is pleased with the S4100. By the way, she still has the INSTAMATIC as well as her BROWNIE HAWKEYE with a half used roll of film.

New 3pin XLR FEMALE jack to dual 2 MALE plug Y SPLITTER cable adaptor 1 ft cord
29 April 2017
Genuine Junk
Ad picture showed metal inserts (all three). Product arrived with plastic inserts. Extremely difficult to remove dual male XLRs from handle of Canon XA 30. After 1st try, wouldn't work. Upon exam, rubber protector at back end of female end was missing, the female receptacle was pushed in so it wouldn't make contact with male pin wires at back end and showed bare copper coming out of insert. Actually I can repair the item and keep as a back up but don't want to use it because it doesn't fit the camera properly. I got what I paid for.

Not sure if this is worth the price
This mic is specifically for the Canon GL2 hotshoe although it can be used on some other hotshoe cameras (Canon gives a list of compatible cameras). Not having a cord is nice. The GL2 has a very good built on stereo mic and so far I am unable to detect a noticible difference between the two in stereo modes. I have only tested the DM 50 on shoots over an hour 3 times and really can't see 'bang for the buck' on it's 2 stereo modes. I shoot mostly stage shows in and around Las Vegas where sound is important and often use remote wireless sound from the stage. Possibly future use of the dm50 will prove differently. I do like the monoral mode which records on both L & R speakers. It does eliminate some noise from the rear so under circumstances where there is unwanted noise to the rear of the camera, it helps. There is a wide difference in retail prices. My opinion (so far) is that at $200, it is not worth the expenditure. At $100 it's a good idea to have in your case for those special circumstances. Another advantage is, it looks good mounted to the camera.
