Phil Collins, 'Both Sides' 180 G Audiophile 2 x LP, Record, Vinyl

Something different from Phil Colins
Phil Colins rose to fame from his 4 popular studio Albums, Face Value (1981), Hello, I Must Be Going (1982), No Jacket Required (1985), and But Seriously (1989). Both Sides Now is a bit of a departure from these 4 previous albums. The music is slowed down and maybe a bit more serious than his previous works. Both Sides Now didn't do as well in the charts are previous efforts. Probably because his fans were expecting more of the same. This album is not more of the same, it's kind of a reset and I for one really enjoy it. When you listen to this album on a good system you'll hear subtle musical details along with lyrics that will engage you. It's not so much about pop music like his previous efforts, It's more about engaging the listener into an emotional journey. His previous albums had slower songs but also had more fast paced having fun songs. As always, the mood you're in will likely affect your perception of this album. I like listening to it with the lights dimmed late at night at low to medium volume. Highly recommended for audiophiles & music lovers who want lots of sonic detail and an emotional connection to Phil's music.

Magical smooth liquid sound that can't be beat at 5X the price
MARANTZ CD94 THOUGHTS by Paul DeMara The Marantz CD 94 was engineered at a time when a focus on sound and build quality were the drivers for the design of audio gear. As well, because CD technology was only 6 years old, the engineers easily still remembered the sound of vinyl and the emotional response it can produce. It was a special time for DAC's as well because manufacturing costs were less of a concern, unlike today where manufacturers try to cut every dollar they can out of their design. So WHY does all this matter... Well because in the world of being a music lover it's ALL ABOUT THE SOUND and as far as sound quality goes, the CD94 does not disappoint. It's smooth liquid like sound is as good if not better than current CD players costing 5 to 10 times as much. How can this be you ask... The fundamental reason for this is due to the ROCK SOLID Philips CDM1 everlasting CD transport and magical Philips TDA-1541 DAC. Many have written about this DAC and it's analogue like properties. This DAC is practically a religion with audiophiles. Having the DAC fed by a stable jitter free bit stream also contributes to the silky sound quality of this late 80's CD player. The unit itself is built to last for generations and is over built which means it's heavy. This is done on purpose to minimize vibrations that can muddy the sound. All the convenience features are located behind the drop down door. Direct access, programability, headphone jack. repeat, program mode, etc. So how does the CD 94 sound? First off, I know what I like and think I have a fairly good ear but in fact everyone's tastes are different. The room, pre-amp, power amp and speakers also contribute to the listening experience. I have several systems in my home and have found that this unit sounds stunning with all of them. Magical comes to mind. The sound from the CD94 is not a replacement for vinyl but sure is close and effortlessly produces an emotional response when you listen to a well recorded CD. Everything I've listened to on the CD94 catches your imagination and with the right audio gear and speakers, you will believe the artist is standing a few feet in front of you. DRIVE BELTS ETC... If you are thinking about buying one of these vintage CD players you should know it will likely need 4 belts immediately or fairly soon. They are easy to acquire and fairly easy to replace. When the belts get a bit weak the drawer is a bit slow to open and close. As well, with all vintage audio gear, some components such as capacitors can become weak over time. This isn't an issue for me as I'm a certified electronics technologist but you should be comfortable with the fact the you may at some point need to have the unit serviced. Servicing requirements are fairly rare due to the high quality components, but it is something to be aware of. Hope my thoughts are helpful in making your decision... and remember it's ALL ABOUT THE SOUND... Happy Listening :-)

Great sound for not much $$$
Simply put the Sure M97xE is a great value. This is a very neutral sounding cartridge to my ears. The built in cleaning anti static brush helps decrease clicks and pops.
