Exciting Revenge Thriller
William Lustig continues his homage to Italian cinema (following the Giallo-influenced MANIAC) with VIGILANTE. A factory worker's life is shattered by an attack on his family by a street gang, and after a stint in jail following his violent reaction to the verdict, he joins the local vigilantes for revenge. The film is very well cast, with Fred "The Hammer" Williamson delivering the best performance (his opening speech is a highlight and brilliantly sets the tone for the film). Blue Underground's transfer (the label is run by Lustig) is a reissue of Anchor Bay's special edition (from Lustig's tenure with Anchor Bay); and as such is the best the film ever looked. If you loved DEATH WISH or the working-class-man-kicking-criminal-butt genre is your thing, this is a must-see!

A Fun, Underrated Brit-Pop Album! Worth Seeking Out!
I first heard of the group Girls Can't Help It on a Benny Hill fansite; one of the members was Samantha Spencer-Lane, best known as one of the first members of Hill's Angels (which were formed in 1980). After listening to a couple of songs from this album, PURE WILD, I managed to find a CD of it. And now I have heard the entire album and I can say that I have found an underrated gem here. I enjoyed the first track, "Rhythm Of The Jungle," made famous in the UK by The Quick, and the fifth track, "Baby Doll." The other tracks are great in their own right: "Jelly Baby," is a sweet mid-tempo number. "X Marks The Spot" is a great hi-energy tune similar to Klymaxx. And the eponymous "Girls Can't Help It" has a nice jazzy arrangement with each member singing a verse about themselves (Sam sings the second verse of this one BTW). I would recommend this album to those who enjoy the music of Mary Jane Girls and Bananarama, both of which started in the same year that Girls Can't Help It started. And if you happen to be a fan of THE BENNY HILL SHOW, and Hill's Angels in particular, definitely seek this album out because you will quite enjoy it as well!

Undiscovered Gem of Indie-Horror Movies!
THE STRANGENESS is one of those titles that seemed to get lost in the shuffle of the horror boom of the 1970s-80s. It was completed in 1980 but it took five years for people to see it (it was released directly to video); it also showed up in syndication on the Movie Greats Network. In it, a group of miners explore the Golden Spike Mine in hopes of reopening it only to discover a bizarre-looking, man-eating creature! The stop-motion animation (this is one of the last films to use this technique) is impressive for a film that was mostly shot in the director's garage (seriously). Code Red, one of the best DVD labels out there releasing cult classics and obscure titles like this one, gives this film a stellar transfer and great extras. There are interviews with the director and the two writers/producers involved, along with some short films done by them, along with a photo gallery. THE STRANGENESS is something that is truly worth seeking out!
