Good for begninners who never used photoshop. Bad for experienced people
I gave this a 4 star rating for being an overall good book. But i should have known that the tips and tricks in this book are VERY simple. This book would be for designers/students/artists/photographers who are just beginning to learn photoshop. Many of the tips in here are so simple, the first chapter is just knowing the interface of photoshop. I dont classify myself as a pro at photoshop but my skills are far superior than this book. I saw myself using quicker methods than those in the book. I guess that expression "you can't judge a book by its cover" does not apply here, as simplified is all this book does, proved easy simple tips of how to use photoshop.
GREAT for those who have never touched photoshop
BAD for any experienced persons who have used photoshop for some time.

Not a bad book for its time, only problem its 10 years ago
A lot of simple effects and design tutorials but the software used is greatly outdated. I think they use adobe elements and with Photoshop and other Adobe programs out there, many of the steps they use can be performed in Photoshop in a significant amount of less steps. I am a graphic design student and feel that this book was obsolete yet did open my eyes to other ideas for graphic designs.

great read/ great for experienced and begininning designers alike! great!
Awesome book. I just designed a magazine for my college class and most of the pages lacked some time of pizzazz. I ended up taking a lot of tutorials from this book and now my magazine looks absolutely amazing. This is not a tips and tricks book as the cover says, but even more, the book goes through every step in depth to create a work of art. I enjoy scott kelby's jagged way of writing the tutorial, it just adds some personality to the book. I am looking forward to browsing more of his books and can safely say, that even as an experienced designer using photoshop cs4, that this book helped me out a lot. Thank You
