Great 'old fashioned' family viewing
This series is a feel good drama about a country village GP in the 1950's. Top class actors play the main parts of the father and son GP's. All the characters in the village are very likeable and although not described as a comedy drama there is a lot of humour and some very funny incidents for the residents of the village. As the story progresses through the episodes more is learnt about the people in the village and the social and economic conditions of the period. The serious side of the story obviously centres around the start of the National Health Service and the effect that that had on small practices and Cottage Hospitals such as the one featured in the story. Great to see it on DVD as i enjoyed watching this first time around on the TV.
