They really spent some time recreating the art of the era. I once studied Roman art and this movie has it down pretty well. Malcolm Mcdowell pooh poohs this production, but I like it a lot. Helen Mirren got to show off her body, which she can certainly do.. Not for the squeamish: Caligula was a monster, and that comes out in the film in several scenes. While not historically accurate, it does capture the essense of Rome during the Caesars, and Caligula and his father and their crazy family.
