Initial problems and cleaning.
1 of 1 found this helpful Does a good job, once you get by the first few grinds. If you try to grind oily, dark roast Expresso-fine intially, the fines stick to the plastic and plug the machine. Cleaning is very difficult and the brush they provide does not do it under the burr. I had to blow it out with compressed air and then grind a couple grinds of maximum coarse to clear it. After that it worked just great. I think the problem was static electricity and any coating on the plastic.
You should grind some old dry old beans first, on Max coarse setting.

An affordable, near perfect Expresso Machine
I purchased a rebuilt ESP6SXL model Breville Expresso maker off e-bay (as I did my Ham Radio equipment, by the way) and I am very pleased with the machine I received from the "factory authorized" re-conditioner. This machine will make any kind of coffee I can think of. It was almost half price compared to as new.
Only one problem exists. It is very sensitive to the consistancy of the coffee grind. With an oily French Roast, no mill that I have found will do the job well enough for this machine, really. I went through 3 burr mills (returned them all, since they claimed "consistant grind"). The oblong chambered Krupps whirly did not do the job either. The round chambered whirly seems to do better if you are careful. I am currently using a "Mr Coffee" branded Sunbeam made in China grinder with a built-in timer, that seems to work reasonably well. My daughter has a simple round chambered whirly that also seemed to work.
The problem is, the fines in the coffee plug up the spritzer hole in the bottom of the coffee screen/holder, and the screen itself, or they come through and sludge the coffee creamo. This machine makes beautiful creamo on top of your coffee, by the way. You do need to be careful of the plastic handle on the water tank liner when you pull it to refill. You should not lift by the handle alone. Poor design/material specification for the application, in my opinion.
I do not think you could find a better Expresso machine for the money. With commercially milled or properly milled coffee, it is perfect.

mixed reviews- 3 purchases
1 of 1 found this helpful Have completed my first three purchases from e-bay. The camera is quite nice and works as expected. The mini electric gear motors I purchased do the job perfectly, powering a sharpening fixture for my buisness. A new invention, in fact. My third purchase was a bit of a disaster. The new 6" benchgrinder was a 'made in China' piece of junk promoted as 1/2 hp, but in reality only about a 1/4 hp if that. (Machine tag says 3/4 hp)! Chinese horses must be very small. The wheel mountings were extreemly hazardous. Sufficently so that I regestered a complaint to the CPSC. I'm not sure I am going to be able to use the machine. The shipping cost was way far more than the machine price, so I sure don't want to return it! One of those: "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" deals.
