A Crowning Acheivement !
2 of 2 found this helpful Finally! They Reissued the "Epic" album "ODESSA" Originally released in 1969 during a difficult period of in-group squabbles and member changes..ie. Vince Melouney Guitarist and Gibb Brother Robin's drug related temper tantrum over the release of the preceding single FIRST OF MAY/ LAMPLIGHT ....still didn't tarnish a masterpiece of an album with soaring melodies and poetic narrative. With a little classical stylings and country tinged tunes thrown in for good measure. Maurice Gibb is finally given some room to showcase his multi-insrumentalist talent and voice .....his first solo as an adult is featured on this opus. I bought this on vinyl in '69 and was pleasantly surprised of how much this group had progressed as not only singles makers but as Thematic Composers of adult songs and almost poetic libretto. I only wish they would have included Robin's "SAVED NY THE BELL""AUGUST OCTOBER" AND "A MILLION YEARS" on this collection...only the first selection can be found on cd as far as I know. And that's on a Greatist Hits collection of Best of Vol. I and THE RECORD...This album marked the end of the "Early ERA" of the group and soon .....two years later a start of one of the MANY COMBACKS this talented group was able to ressurect throughout their illustrious career...This album was originally released on "ATCO" in America ....and it was not an answer to the Beatles' SGT. PEPPER album as some assume. It doesn't represent a theme or a concept as other named groups tried to ride the coat-tails of such an unequaled masterpiece as S.P.L.H.C.H.......Listen to this album for it's inner melodic beauty and be pleasantly surprised like me.

THE ONE & ONLY
