The Importance of Ernest
I'm halfway through but I'm confident to say it's a great read by (as far as I know) the leading authority on the life and work of seminal country music artist Ernest Tubb. Ronnie Pugh did the bios for the 5 Bear Family boxed sets so that is solid recommendation in itself.
Pugh 's research and knowledge is top notch, and he goes into sufficient detail about dates and personnel to satisfy the avid fan, but doesn't overdo it to the point where the more casual reader would be put off.
Pugh's style is easy and good humoured, and his reportage is balanced whilst still letting his personal interest and affection for Tubb himself come through.
Along with the compelling story of Tubb himself readers get a great overview of the development of the country music industry and it's movers and shakers, plus a look into life for the folks in Texas and the South West through the hard times of the 20's onwards. NoDjango 2021

Bakersfield Delight, Don Rich Guitar Pickin' Riches
A great sounding selection of tracks featuring seminal Bakersfield Sound originator Don Rich. Prior to his untimely passing in a motorcycle crash, Don was Buck Owen's right hand man, harmony singer and vocalist on Buck's TV show in the 60's. Don was a great fiddle player and an original Tele Twanger still influential today. We can still see some of Don and Buck's great playing on You Tube today and appreciate their upbeat catchy country pop enhanced of course by their magnificent colourful suits. This selection would be of interest to any would be Tele picker and to any fan of quality Honky Tonk and classic country music. Cliff Canyon
