A Con Man, a Beautiful Gal and a Fatherless Young Boy
Years before this movie came out I was infatuated with Meredith Willson's "The Music Man", where a con man comes into the town of River City, Iowa, falls in love with the beautiful gal, becomes a hero to the young boy and is nearly tarred and feathered by the townspeople when they discover the con. Move the scene to a small ocean-side town in Australia. Substitute the Robert Preston role with Bryan Brown (if his name isn't familiar, you'll probably recognize his face), then replace Shirley Jones with Karen Allen (she's a real sweetheart) and, instead of a boy's band con, make it an equally unbelievable theme park/ghost ship con. This is a fun movie which seems to be underrated by the critics, but is a great all-around movie for the whole family. It's also fun to spot actor/characters known from other Australian movies. And, by the way, did I mention how totally gorgeous Karen Allen is?
The Quiet Man (DVD, 2002, Collectors Edition) Brand New Sealed

A collector's edition version of the Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara and directed by John Ford
It is truly a classic! I've enjoyed this movie for four decades and have worn out one VHS tape version and one DVD version. A number of John Wayne's favorite actors team up for this story of an American returning to his Irish heritage, falling for a local colleen whose brother prevents their courtship.Eventually the whole town of Innisfree gets involved in the conflict.
