Odessey and Oracle: 30th Anniversary Edition
This is simply a must have CD for the true music fan. I came very late to the Zombies (late 30's). I grew up loving 60's music, holding Sgt. Pepper and Pet Sounds among the greatest of records of all time. I was missing this album. It belongs with the previously mentioned titles. It's a lovely work of pop music, a great British feel to it, it captures the high point of the day. The production is great, the performance is great, the songwriting is amazing. Simply put, you can't go wrong with Odessey and Oracle in your collection. Everyone I know who hears this (I'm a musician, and believe it or not, about half the musicians I know haven't actually heard this yet) falls in love with it and holds it in the same regards. As for the 30th Anniversary edition, it's nice because the packaging has a lot of history on the making of the record and the demise of the band, which all happened at the same time. I'm not sure I need a mono version along with the stereo version (I guess I'm just not that much of a purist) but you can't complain about it. On the bonus stuff, there's not too much here, a different version of Time of the Season, which will make you agree with the version that's on the album. I wish there was more unused material from these sessions, but as the notes state, the Zombies recorded everything they had, no unused tracks etc. Highly, highly recommended.

Cosmic Rough Riders a slick sound?
As a big Teenage Fanclub fan, when I stumbled on The Cosmic Rough Riders, I of course liked them. They're sort of a more commerical Teenage Fanclub, a bit more polished and slick, but still some nice catchy tunes. I haven't heard any other work by them yet, so perhaps it's the production and producer that made this so slick sounding, almost over the line for my tastes. That said, when I got it, I listened to it about 20 times in a row.

Blue Rodeo - Small Miracles
I've been a Blue Rodeo fan since I saw them play to about 25 or so people in a Holiday Inn ballroom in Cleveland way back around 1988 or so. Small Miracles probably won't go down as my favorite Blue Rodeo record, but Jim Cuddy's "C'mon" is worth the price of admission alone- an incredible bit of songwriting. It took me quite a few listens for it to settle in for me that I liked the record. It seems heavy on Cuddy ballads, which were never my favorites from the band. Usually there is a perfect balance between the Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy songs, but this seemd to tip a bit in Cuddy's favor. Unlike some past records, this has very good production and beautiful packing as well. If you're a Blue Rodeo fan, it's a must, if your new to the band I'd suggest someting like Just Like A Vacation, which highlights a lot of great live stuff from over the years.
