Great, cheap, flexible TEXT to SPEECH unit with old maps.
Expeditor for a living.
Text to speech, easy multi-point trip, configurable display
I have a newer 5" MIO and it doesn't do several things that this one does. I am about to get another one to run alongside new one for some of these things.
Entry seemd faster and a lot more logical on C230 than new 5" unit.
The C230 can set up a multi-stop route and then allow you to see the whole thing, scan how far and how long to each point just by touching a timeline. Option in the display area to choose a couple 3?) items to show; time or distance to next waypoint, or final destination or both, speed, dir? +others I forgot.
I would use the waypoint feature to just pick a spot somewhere along another route to force it to go that way and then I could instantly see how long that would take (if I didn't like it, easy delete to return to old route. New 5" can set up multi-stop, butr you can't see anything but next stop).
It can be set to ask if you want to reroute, 5" automatic. Easy block of road on route (can shoose distance) when incidents or traffic was problem (then it reroutes)
Easy save of favorite destinations. can save in created existing or created categories.
I used the type of vehicle setting to change the travel estimates when going through some construction. Set it to truck which has a lower max speed limit and that adds some time to the estimate.
My new one underestimates arrival on mostly highway route by about 30 min. 5" unit Estimated arrival doesn't start getting shown as sooner until during the last 30 or so miles. C230 accurate estimates. Sometimes overestimates limited access roads (express lanes in middle, nto many lights), so it will choose another route. As mentioned above, I just touch a point somewhere on that road and it will reroute that way.
Recommend shut off the auto record feature to save space.
Did most entries quicker than my new unit.
Only downsides, the maps are getting old. Some units came with newer versions, but there is no update from MIO. Also, I heard that to make room for the text to speech feature (vs the C220?) they deleted a large amount of POIs (6? mil to 1+ mil) There are newer state by state versions of the maps with all the waypoints. However you have to run a hack program and you may have to delete some existing states to make room for the new, larger data sets (do you really need North Dakota and Puerto Rico?). Never tried it, but the hack also allows you to change other stuff like icons, background. It took some doing to try and put on Memory card.
As a portable, my battery never lasted too long.
Irritating quirks: Will sometimes avoind left turn at major intersection by going left one block early, then trying to get back on major crossroad 1 block before the light (can be hard). Guess it was a little shorter? Not sure if backup function worked well for me, if unit reset, would lose all but first few personal POIs I had added.

There is a c2010 version out.
I have not used this one yet. I am an expeditor and have used Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky and Northern California.
